This week is dedicated to using the right etiquette when addressing someone in academia. Addressing someone correctly is important because it is pivotal for building positive relationships, maintaining professionalism, and showing respect and consideration for others.

Respect: Emphasising the use of the appropriate pronouns or title or other form of address shows respect for the individual and acknowledges their authentic being, status and position.
Professionalism: In professional settings, addressing someone correctly supports maintain a positive professional culture and fosters positive and caring working relationships.
Social etiquette: Addressing someone correctly is the foundation of social etiquette and helps avoid the risk of hurting someone’s feelings and protects them and you from embarrassment.
Cultural sensitivity: Different cultures have diverse norms, values and expectations regarding forms of address; using the appropriate forms demonstrates cultural sensitivity and awareness.
Communication effectiveness: Using the right form of address enables clear communication and prevents misunderstandings in formal and informal situations.
