In the heart of the Academic Zoo, there was a narrow path known as the Snake Trail. It was the fastest route to the top level of the zoo, where animals could enjoy the glorious sunrise above the clouds. A cunning snake, however, controlled it. The snake, with its sharp tongue, kept others at bay, convincing them that only a few selected animals could pass and that they must prove their worth through rigid forms, evidence, evaluations, and arbitrary rules.
One day, a young fox eager to expand her knowledge approached the trail but felt hesitant. She had heard about the snake’s dominance and feared she wouldn’t measure up. As the fox pondered, a group of diverse animals gathered nearby: a wise tortoise, a quick-footed deer, a curious bird, and a hardworking beaver. The fox shared her concerns, and the group listened. They realised that the snake’s power was based on isolation and division, not on any true strength.
Together, they devised a plan. The deer would distract the snake with swift movements, the tortoise would quietly revise the rules with thoughtful logic, and the bird would carry messages along the trail, building support systems. The beaver, ever practical, would create new pathways that avoided the snake’s control. When the snake confronted them, it found itself overwhelmed by the unity of those who refused to follow its rules. United, they reclaimed the path, ensuring that all animals, regardless of their status or stature, could walk freely.
Moral: collective resistance, built on collaboration and mutual support, can dismantle oppressive constraints and create a space where everyone can thrive.
Was there ever a moment when you had to conquer a snake?
What are your strategies for collectively challenging and dismantling oppressive barriers?
