#EveryLittleActionCounts Week 29: Break new ground!

This week is a call to break new ground! Breaking new ground can empower academics to innovate, challenge norms, and creatively address societal challenges. This enhances knowledge and enables alignment of work with impactful, real-world issues. Academics can thus evolve into positive change-makers, driving progress and fostering sustainable and meaningful contributions to society.

“There’s something about taking a plow and breaking new ground. It gives you energy!”

– Ken Kesey

We can break new ground by considering the following key aspects:

Challenge the status quo: Speak up or simply act and do your academic career differently by challenging confines and contributing new perspectives that highlight innovative solutions.

  • Risk-taking and innovation: Embrace uncertainties and dare to pursue unconventional ideas that can lead to breakthroughs and create positive change.
  • Embracing diversity: Integrate underrepresented groups and voices in your field and institution, enabling the introduction of fresh yet undiscovered views and better reflecting societal and institutional complexities.

We would be very happy to learn about your suggestions on how to break new ground in academia.
