In the Academic Zoo, the beavers were known for their craftsmanship. They built intricate dams and sturdy bridges that connected every part of the zoo. Their work made life easier for all the animals, yet the zookeepers rarely noticed. “They’re just doing what comes naturally to them”, said the lions, crossing the bridge without a second thought. “Why should we reward them for something they’re supposed to do?” added the peacocks.

One day, the beavers decided to stop building. “If our work is invisible, let’s see how the zoo functions without it,” they said. The rivers overflowed, paths were blocked, and animals found themselves isolated. Only then did the zookeepers realise the true value of the beavers’ efforts. When the beavers resumed their work, it was on their terms -with recognition, fair treatment, and a voice in the zoo’s decision-making. Their bridges became more than physical structures; they symbolised the connections and collaborations that kept the zoo thriving.Moral: academia’s progress depends on the unseen efforts of those who build connections, individually and collectively. Acknowledge and value their contributions!
