#EveryLittleActionCounts Week 39: Speak out against microaggressions

Microaggressions, though often subtle, contribute to a hostile and exclusionary academic environment. These subtle acts can have a cumulative effect on the well-being and success of anyone in academia.

By actively speaking out against microaggressions, we can support the creation of more inclusive spaces where everyone can feel valued and respected.

“We all have a voice, we just have to decide how we want to use it.” – Minda Harts

We can all address microaggressions by:

Using your voice

Use your voice to call out inappropriate comments or behaviour, regardless of who is targeted and regardless of who is enacting the microaggression.

Offer support

Offer support to individuals experiencing microaggressions by acknowledging their feelings and showing solidarity.

Encourage open conversations

Initiate conversations about microaggressions in team settings, fostering an environment where addressing them becomes the norm.

We would be very happy to hear about your strategies for speaking out against microaggressions.
